Let’s Talk Wood

Last week, we revealed to your our 3D version of our kitchen.  We’d like to show you some photo examples of some of the wood elements we’d like to include (budget willing).  We’re aiming to add as much wood as we can without the room feeling like a lodge or cabin (which are wonderful… just not for this house).

Here’s a recap of last week’s reveal:

Floors

We’re into reclaimed floors.  They create such a warm, casual feel.  They’re not too perfect, which is not only something we like… but something we need. [I hate cleaning floors]

I came across a featured home in Better Homes & Gardens Refresh Magazine that absolutely spoke to me.  The homeowner, Amy, also has a blog called Gather and Build about her renovation process.  I will start off by saying that there isn’t anything I don’t like about her home- it is absolutely beautiful and you should click on either of the links above to check it out- but my favorite part is her flooring.  The magazine contains a fantastic picture of her kitchen (that I can’t find online) that showcases the floors, but this picture of her living/dining will give you an idea of what we’re talking about:

Floors

Phewwwwwwwwwwwww.  Those are great.

If you’ve ever looked into salvage materials or reclaimed wood floors, you’ll know the prices are generally not cheap.  We’re going to keep checking our budget as this project comes along, but this is the look we’re aiming for.

Walls

In the spirit of trying to make classic choices within a tight budget, we’re aiming for plank walls in lieu of a tile wall.  The pattern is subtle, but will be more resistant than drywall to stains and moisture.  It can always be removed/painted/skipped if we change our minds. Here’s the look we’re going for:

Island

Once you took a look at the 3D Kitchen plan, you probably noticed our cascading wood island idea.  Here is the photo we’re aiming to imitate (minus the cook-top and sink):

And, there it is… Wood in a nutshell!  We can’t wait!
